Across all fields of Transactional Analysis, the adult ego state is given an almost ‘holy’ status, whereby we encourage a commonly desired aim to “be in Adult”. The question is “How do we define ‘Adult’?” Although there are a wide range of models of the adult ego state, described by various authors endeavouring to encompass the differing and contradictory aspects of adult in a single model, what about the neurodivergent mind? Does their experience of adult, and how this presents, differ to the predominant neurotype?  

As a psychotherapist who specialises in working with neurodivergent clients, Neil Keenan will co-present with Cathie Long, a neurodivergent independent social worker, and a psychotherapist in advanced clinical training. Together they will examine the profoundly divided, and sometimes irreconcilable, nature or natures of consciousness.
