TASC Update October 2025

24/10/25, 11:00

Hello from UKATA Training Accreditation and Standards Committee (TASC). Welcome to new members of UKATA who are beginning training in TA. TASC is a committee of volunteers who oversee the network of Registered Training Establishments (RTEs) to ensure their students can be registered with UKCP via UKATA. We publish irregular updates that inform members about any changes or developments in the training accreditation and standards processes. Past updates can be accessed on the UKATA website here.

Updated UKATA Handbook and the Expression of Accessibility Requirements Form

The UKATA version of the European Association of Transactional Analysis (EATA) training handbook can be found on the UKATA website here. This version of the handbook must be used by UKATA members who wish to use their CTA examination as evidence of meeting the requirements for UKCP registration.

We have recently updated this handbook so that it is in line with the most recent edition of the EATA Handbook. A key change we want to draw members’ attention to, is the inclusion in the new version of the handbook of an invitation for all training members to use an Expression of Accessibility Requirements Form (13.4.7) (found at the bottom of the handbook webpage). This form is used to detail the specific needs a training member would like to have accounted when in training, supervision and examination settings; and is for the member to share in those settings as they wish. The handbook states, “These needs may relate to neurodiversity, disability, mental or physical health, cultural or linguistic background, or other aspects of lived experience”. We encourage all training members to use this long overdue process to support their success in training and examinations.

In Section 3.3 of the new manual there is also useful guidance for trainers, supervisors and examiners to support their attention to difference. Regarding neurodiversity and learning needs, the new manual says:

We also encourage trainers, supervisors, and examiners to reflect on how neurodiversity and other learning needs may show up in the training room or in written or oral assessments. For example, differences in attention, processing, or communication may affect how a trainee participates in group discussions or how they structure their written work. These differences are not deficits, and recognising them helps to foster a psychologically safe, respectful, and enabling learning environment.

We encourage all training, supervising and examining members to read through the new guidance in this section of the new handbook.

Member advertising: descriptions of qualification and the use of reviews or testimonials

We’d like to ask all practicing UKATA members to review how they describe their qualifications in their advertising. The phrase ‘Postgraduate Diploma’ is specific to qualifications that have been conferred by universities and should only be used where this is the case. Please ensure that your qualifications are accurately described.

We’d also like to remind members that the UKCP’s code of ethics and professional practice prohibit the use of testimonials or reviews from clients in advertising.

Notes from the recent meeting of UKCP’s Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy College

Notes from Rosalind Sharples, our representative at HIPC meetings, of the most recent meeting can be found here.
