Writing Up for the CTA Exam…
July 26 @ 4:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Writing Transactional Analysis Counselling & Psychotherapy sessions.
For this initiative to succeed, I believe that for something to exist or happen you must trust your curiosity and have the desire for collaboration in dialogue. We will explore the dynamics of unfolding narratives which transform the liminality (the space between things) by making meaning of disruptive events and fragmentation of social identities. The narrative or script is the telling and re-telling stories of our many selves. Frank (1995) tells us “repetition is the medium of becoming”. The CTA is an opportunity to understand the (re) construction of the narrative of how the self is positioned within relationships and institutions of power. Freud referred to this as the psychoanalytical and anthropological approach that leads to the cathartic method of “Remembering, Repeating and Working-Through” (Freud, 1914).
Please bring your curiosity and something for recording your thoughts. Participants will be invited to bring extracts from their written work in progress to share with the group. Such acts of writing are moments of transition from novice to competence. It is about the importance, through not knowing, to (re) negotiating new identities (Van Gennep, 1960; Turner, 1969) from trainee to post-qualified therapist; i.e. of moving from a state of indeterminacy and ambiguity to potential empowerment.
Homework & Peer Feedback Support: This approach of 7 sessions is designed to offer the opportunity for peer review input. This approach benefits each participant by receiving feedback guided by you on at least one draft, and each session will allow for congruent and developmental conversations about the different issues that inevitably—and sometimes unexpectedly—will come up in written drafts.
