An Introduction to Different Types of Transference
January 20 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pmDonation
This Introductory workshop to the series offers a “two-person psychology” way of looking at clinical work. It offers a complexity of thinking and real options as to how we might engage with our clients, and what offerings of understandings that we might give to our clients – especially when the therapeutic relationship feels sticky or feels at risk of rupturing. An Introduction to Different Types of Transference will start by accessing material from an article by Helena Hargaden published in 2019. Helena Hargaden offers us a very simple map of different types of transference phenomena Introjective Transference Projective Transference Transformational Transference We will be using these three categories of transference as a starting point to understand the importance of this phenomena when considering helping relationships. We will then move on in the workshop to consider work by Petruska Clarkson and to gain a greater understanding of counter-transference – the experiences of the therapist or helper in response to their client. By the end of the workshop, the attendee will have gained a good understanding and to be able to discriminate between three different types of transference, to have considered counter-transference and will have had the opportunity to apply some of these concepts to their practice in the broadest sense.
