When is it “Ok” to touch our clients? Is it ever appropriate? Or is it not only appropriate, but also a powerful therapeutic tool?

Physical touch in counselling and psychotherapy has long been a controversial issue. Practioner’s may worry that it is inappropriate to touch their clients. You may even have been taught that it is unethical to do so. In this OnlineEvent, Rebecca will look at some of the reasons for this controversy and attempt to offer a different perspective on it as a therapeutic tool. She will invite participants to consider their own reaction to using touch with their clients; different types of touch; how we may work safely with touch; as well as giving participants some practical tools to go away with.

The body is an incredibly powerful tool for change and one of the many ways we may work with it is through touch. Rebecca will be presenting her own thoughts on touch developed from an accumulation of training and research into Body Psychotherapy, Polyvagal Theory, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Biodynamic Psychotherapy, and Trauma based therapies over the years. Rebecca has been working with the body in her work for many years and is very influenced by Interpersonal Neurobiology.
