Social Anxiety is one of the most prevalent anxiety disorders, thought to affect about 1 in 12 of the general population in the UK. However, recognition of social anxiety is often poor.
This can be linked to the significance use of avoidance in those experiencing social anxiety, which if left unaddressed, can lead to concurrent depression and use of substances.
In this accessible talk, Rachel would like to share ideas about social anxiety and its implications for clinical practice. Using perspectives from attachment theory and developmental psychology, Rachel will provide an account of the nature of early relating and its impact upon the development of a socially anxious self.
