An Addiction can be seen as any intense urge to engage in a pervasive behaviour that causes either physical or psychological harm. The number of people seeking support for issues with Addiction increases each year, bringing many into the therapy room. Approaches to working with Individuals and groups who experience addiction are varied, and we may feel unskilled when issues around addiction emerge and permeate the therapeutic dyad.  

This workshop will explore Addiction models, highlight treatment pathways, and will draw on helpful resources such as the Cycle of Change, that can be supportive of the working alliance, and easily woven into our clinical work.  

The workshop will also highlight the importance of working through an Intersectional lens when considering reasons for Addiction, and to help practitioners grow awareness of how themes of oppression and power experienced by various individuals and groups can…
