As therapists what do we need to know about how our brains and bodies respond to the world? How has our evolution influenced these reactions? What is Polyvagal theory and how may a therapist work with it? How does our brain develop in relationship? What happens to our bodies during trauma?

How does change really happen?  This course is an introduction to the field of Interpersonal Neurobiology (also known as Relational Neuroscience) and tries to answer some of these questions.

Dan Seigel first coined the term Interpersonal Neurobiology in the 1990s and since then the field has become increasingly important in helping therapists work with the brain and the body to further understand deep psychological processes.

This course will be delivered online, interactively and experientially and will cover the key principles of Interpersonal Neuroscience:

Evolution

Brain development

Polyvagal theory

Affect Regulation

The physical effects and impact of trauma Working with the body.

We will also look at the work of Dan Seigel, Loui Cozolino, Deb Dana, Stephen Porges.
