EMDR, initially developed in the late 1980s, helps clients integrate past disturbing experiences using Adaptive Information Programming.
It is a structured therapy encouraging brief focus on memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements).
This is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories.
EMDR is an extensively researched, effective method proven to help people recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms. By focusing directly on the effects of the memory the client does not necessarily have to disclose content.
In this workshop we will cover the basic steps involved in the “Safe Space” sequence which helps clients to build anchors to regulate their experience. This can be very helpful if the client gets emotionally overwhelmed and helps them get their thinking back online.
