Stage Two (b) marks the third year of the counselling/psychotherapy program and aims to advance participants' clinical knowledge and skills while delving into specialised areas within counselling and psychotherapy. The curriculum is designed to deepen understanding and proficiency in various clinical contexts.
Topics covered include trauma and affect regulation, psychosexual issues, addiction, grief and loss, depression and anxiety, safeguarding, risk assessment, suicidal ideation, shame, couples therapy, cultural diversity, setting up a private practice, and research methodologies.
Throughout the year, participants are required to complete a Supervised Practice Report and a 2500-word essay and present a research poster in small groups. Reflective discussions with tutors are also encouraged.
By the end of this stage, participants will have gained insight into theories of mental health, conflict, distress, and deficit across diverse clinical contexts. They acquire advanced clinical skills and are prepared to pursue further certification or enter the final stage of formal TA training.
The program offers flexibility with three options:
- Qualify with an NCPS-accredited Connexus Institute Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling and conclude training.
- Obtain the accredited Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling and proceed to Stage 3 for UKCP registration or international accreditation as a Certified Transactional Analyst.
- Progress to Stage 3 of Psychotherapy studies without the optional Diploma, culminating in becoming a psychotherapist and CTA.
